Red Robin has completed the sale of 108 company-owned restaurants across three refranchising transactions, generating approximately $89.4 million in gross proceeds.
The largest agreement involves Op Burgers, which is acquiring 69 restaurants across Kentucky, Indiana, Maryland, Ohio, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, South Carolina and Virginia. Sixty-one of those locations have closed for $55.9 million. The remaining eight are expected to transfer by the end of Red Robin’s fiscal year, pending liquor-license approvals.
Kuber acquired 17 restaurants in Oregon and Washington for $10 million, while Evergreen Dining purchased 30 locations in Washington and western Idaho for $23.5 million.
Once the final eight restaurants close, Red Robin expects the broader refranchising effort to include 116 restaurants and approximately $96 million in total proceeds.
The company plans to use the net proceeds to reduce outstanding debt and support refinancing priorities under its First Choice Plan. Red Robin also said the transactions should give the new franchise operators an opportunity to invest in the restaurants and accelerate growth within their markets.
For Red Robin, this is more than a real-estate or ownership transaction. Moving a large group of restaurants from company operation to franchise control reduces the chain’s direct operating exposure while bringing in capital for debt reduction and reinvestment. The long-term test will be whether the new operators can improve restaurant performance while preserving a consistent guest experience across the brand.
