KFC is giving its bucket a smaller job: a chicken snack that can fit in a car cupholder.

The chain introduced Go Buckets on October 5, with advertised prices starting at $3.49. Customers choose four nuggets, two wings or one tender, paired with an individual serving of fries or wedges. KFC’s announcement

That produces six chicken-and-side combinations. KFC says the buckets can be held in one hand and are its first bucket designed for a standard car cupholder.

The starting price comes with conditions. Restaurant participation and prices vary, the offer is available while supplies last, and tax, tip and fees are additional. Customers should check their restaurant’s menu before ordering.

KFC’s marketing chief, Melissa Cash, describes the product as a way to reach people between traditional meals. The packaging and small chicken portions give the chain a distinct snack offering without requiring a family-sized purchase.

Braisepoint’s operating view: A small entry price can create a reason to stop in during an otherwise quiet part of the day. For operators, the useful measure would be how much business comes from those additional visits.

That makes the mix of orders worth watching. A Go Bucket bought between meals could add a transaction; a customer switching from a larger meal could reduce the amount spent on that visit. Drink attachments, preparation time and food waste would help explain the result.

The announcement establishes the product and its advertised starting price. It provides no sales results for the new offering.
