Buffalo Wild Wings has chosen an operator with experience in coffeehouses, pizza and engineering to lead its sports-bar operations.
Inspire Brands announced that Ahmed Awadallah will join Buffalo Wild Wings as chief operating officer of its sports-bar business. The company said he most recently served as managing director and COO of Espresso House Group, a European coffeehouse company with more than 500 corporate and franchised locations.
Before Espresso House, Awadallah held several roles at Yum Brands, including chief operations and customer officer for Pizza Hut Europe. Inspire emphasized the combination of restaurant management, engineering and systems experience in announcing the appointment.
That résumé fits the complexity of a sports-bar chain. Buffalo Wild Wings must coordinate a broad food and beverage menu, live sports, dine-in service, high-volume event periods and a growing off-premise business. Improvements in speed or labor deployment cannot come at the expense of the social experience that gives the brand its identity.
The appointment also places franchise collaboration near the center of the job. Inspire described technology-powered efficiency and work with franchisees as priorities. For a large franchised system, operating changes matter only when they can be repeated across restaurants with different owners and local conditions.
A leadership announcement does not establish that those improvements have happened. Inspire did not provide a new operating plan, investment figure or performance target with the appointment. Those details will become clearer through the initiatives Awadallah advances after joining.
What happens next is execution: which processes are standardized, where technology reduces friction and whether restaurant teams and franchisees see measurable benefits without flattening the guest experience.
