Smoothie King is using National Coffee Day to do more than give away a drink. The chain is putting the offer behind its Healthy Rewards program, turning a two-day promotion into a loyalty engagement play.

On September 28 and 29, Healthy Rewards members can receive one free 12-ounce Coffee High Protein Almond Mocha Smoothie at participating Smoothie King locations nationwide. The company says the drink combines cold brew made from 100% Arabica beans with protein and delivers 14 grams of protein, 3 grams of fiber and 0 grams of added sugar in the promotional 12-ounce size.

The timing gives Smoothie King two ways to stand apart in a crowded coffee promotion window. The offer starts September 28, one day before National Coffee Day, and the featured product is not a conventional cup of coffee. It puts cold brew inside a protein-focused smoothie, positioning the chain against coffee occasions without abandoning its core smoothie identity.

The loyalty requirement is just as important as the free product. The one-time offer is exclusive to Healthy Rewards members. That means the promotion can reward existing members while giving nonmembers a reason to join the program before the two-day window. Smoothie King did not disclose a signup target or expected redemption volume, so the size of that effect remains unknown.

The product also fits a broader menu direction already visible at the chain. Smoothie King has an established lineup of coffee and espresso smoothies, including several high-protein options. The company says protein has long been central to its menu rather than a new addition created specifically for the current protein-coffee trend.

That distinction matters strategically. Restaurants chasing a popular ingredient or format can look temporary if the promotion sits outside the rest of the menu. Smoothie King can connect this offer to products it already sells, giving customers who redeem the free 12-ounce drink a clear path to purchase similar coffee smoothies later.

The chain says it has more than 1,200 units nationwide. At that scale, a national two-day giveaway can generate meaningful traffic, but free-product volume alone will not show whether the promotion worked. The more useful signals would be Healthy Rewards enrollment, reactivation of existing members, repeat purchases after the giveaway and whether coffee-based smoothies gain additional frequency.

For Braisepoint, that is the part worth watching after September 29. The free smoothie gets attention. The longer-term value comes if Smoothie King converts some of that attention into a customer relationship it can reach again.
