Grubhub is giving some delivery customers a reason to visit restaurants in person.
The Drop, a new rewards program, offers selected users in New York City and Chicago credits toward future Grubhub orders when they dine at participating restaurants. The first offers were scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 1, according to Restaurant Business.
The weekly format gives eligible users as many as three personalized offers on Thursdays, with one offer available to claim, the publication reported. Early participating brands include Tacombi, Chopt, DIG and Dos Toros.
The important step happens before the meal. Grubhub’s terms require customers to link an eligible payment card and select an offer in the app before paying with that card at the participating restaurant. Each offer can carry its own purchase requirements.
The reward is future ordering credit. Grubhub’s terms say credits expire 30 days after they are applied and have no cash value.
For restaurants, the program creates another route from app discovery to a physical visit. Grubhub told Restaurant Dive it intended to broaden access in New York City and Chicago during October before a later nationwide expansion.
Availability remains limited to eligible users and offers, so diners should check their app before making a visit.
