Deliveroo and Coco Robotics plan to bring robot deliveries to the United Kingdom, beginning at London’s Canary Wharf in October.
The exclusive partnership was announced on October 5. Coco says later rollout locations include Milton Keynes, Leeds, Stockton-on-Tees and Nottingham, with expansion planned over the following weeks and months. The companies’ announcement
Initial restaurant partners in Wood Wharf are expected to include Patty&Bun, Signorelli and Beam. The companies identify additional merchants for later expansion.
The service marks Coco’s entry into the UK and Deliveroo’s first use of autonomous delivery vehicles in the country. The companies say the electric robots travel at walking pace and are intended for short urban trips.
Deliveroo’s rider network will continue to handle most orders. The announcement describes robot deliveries as an additional way to serve restaurants and shops.
Coco also says it will share sidewalk-hazard data with BlindSquare, whose app helps blind and partially sighted people navigate. That is a company-stated part of the partnership, rather than an independently measured result from the UK rollout.
Braisepoint’s operating view: For a restaurant, the useful test would be whether this delivery option improves completed orders without adding confusion at pickup. Staff would still need a clear way to match the food to the right delivery and respond when a handoff goes wrong.
The announcement provides no measured UK delivery-cost savings or restaurant sales lift. Those outcomes would need evidence once the service is operating.
Canary Wharf is the first location to watch. The broader list of cities describes a rollout plan; the release does not supply exact opening dates for each city.
