Chip City has closed all of its cookie shops, ending a growth story that began in New York in 2017.

The company confirms the shutdown on its website, saying efforts to stabilize the business could not overcome difficult economic conditions. It thanks employees and customers for their support.

Restaurant Business reported that president Nicolas Baizan told employees the chain's 22 remaining stores would permanently close at the end of business Thursday, Oct. 1. The company’s public website statement confirms the complete closure but does not give a store count.

Chip City started in Astoria, Queens, with founders Peter Phillips and Teddy Gailas. In May 2024, the company announced a $7.5 million Series B investment from Enlightened Hospitality Investments, bringing that investor’s total commitment to $17.5 million.

That earlier funding announcement emphasized expanding the brand and improving operations. The shutdown now closes that chapter for its physical shops.

The company’s farewell message is the clearest current guidance for customers: all Chip City locations are closed.
